Aquabox, the famous Rotary emergency service which is run out of Derbyshire by the Rotary Club of Wirksworth is at the forefront of the efforts to help those suffering from the effects of the recent floods in Nepal.
Natural disasters, such as earthquakes, flooding, drought, typhoons or hurricanes happen all too often. They can occur in any location in the world, causing widespread disruption, loss of life, food and water shortages. Similarly, man-made conflicts result not only in severe damage to infrastructure but also in large numbers of people being displaced from their homes with very limited access to shelter and essential living items.
When disaster strikes, whether it is natural or man-made, the people affected are in desperate need of safe drinking water and humanitarian help. Aquabox responds by sending its AquaFilters and humanitarian aid, working closely with selected aid agencies and distribution partners who ensure that the aid reaches those most in need.
We have just received the following update from Aquabox:
“As you will have heard on the news the monsoon rains have been very severe in Nepal and Bangladesh over the past 2 weeks and Aquabox have been able to respond rapidly to this disaster.
Within days of the floods occurring, Aquaboxes were airlifted into those areas in dire need of support. These boxes had been held in stock in Nepal by our trusted partners since, sadly, the country endure disasters on a regular basis. Aquabox has long established partnerships with the Rotary in Nepal, British Gurkha Rifles, Nepal Armed Police, Nepalese Army and other agencies and we have been able to work through these organisations to respond quickly and effectively, when a disasters such as last weeks floods occur.
In view of the magnitude of this disaster we are planning further shipments to Nepal, to provide safe drinking water and humanitarian aid to the communities afflicted by the flooding, as well as replenishing our strategic stock.
We are looking to raise the funds for this follow up shipment and any support you could provide within your club and district would be really appreciated
Thanks for your help and support
Roger Cassidy, Aquabox Trustee”
