District Governor’s visit to Bolsover

Rotarian Michael Longdon, Governor of Rotary District 1220, visited the club to meet the members and discuss with them his aims and objectives for the forthcoming year and beyond.

Michael was proud to be the DG of a district that had The Bolsover Club within its bounds; the achievements of the club were outstanding for a club of its size. Their involvement and support for Poolsbrook two-day Armed Forces Event, Bolsover Gala, the Hill Race, Freedom Day, Town Charity Day and the Winter Festival all show an outstanding commitment to the local community. However the support of many International charities and projects also shows a concern that extends beyond country borders.  He was pleased to mention those commitments as they are sometimes overlooked by those not directly involved – the Christmas Santa Sleigh at supermarkets and other venues and the Crepe Stall at various events are now enshrined in Rotary legend and illustrate Club’s strive for excellence. To top it all the club’s website is of such a high standard that it won the shield for the finest site in the District.

He went on to encourage the club to recruit new members, and to embrace and discuss new ideas. He was aware of the problems facing all Rotary clubs but given the enthusiasm and hard work of members in Bolsover he saw a bright future for Rotary in Bolsover.

President Rita Reed thanked the DG for his address and assured him “that the club will continue to uphold its programme of events and was looking to move in different directions to expand its work within the community” The DG met every member of the club and responded to questions and queries on a one to one basis. The club wished him a good year as DG and looked forward to his return at a later date.
