At the Club meeting on 11 January 2017, we welcomed representatives from Staveley Armed Forces and Veterans’ Association, and MacMillan Cancer Support. Both organisations received cheques from the Rotary Club.
We were also joined by 6 members of the Bolsover Women’s Institute, with whom we ran a Race Night in November 2016 for the benefit of the new Macmillan Cancer Centre at Chesterfield Royal Hospital. Their President Linsey Fish, with WI Member Sue Coulton, joined Rotary President Chris Toyne to present cheques totalling over £1300 to Rob Turner from Macmillan towards this tremendous project.
We also heard from Staveley Armed Forces and Veterans Asociation (SAFVA) who stage the annual Armed Forces Show at Poolsbrook Country Park. At last year’s event Rotary ran a crepes stall as well as a 50/50 raffle. Despite the damp weather the event attracted about 7,500 people and as a great success. Rotary was able to present a cheque for £698 from their activities on the day to SAFVA Chairman Joe Roberts.
