After the terrible year that has been 2020, members of the Rotary Club of Bolsover were relieved and delighted to be able to host Santa for his pre Christmas trip to our area. Members of the public were also pleased to see a spark of normality appear.
Sainsbury’s Supermarket Collections
We are very grateful to the management of Sainsbury’s in Chesterfield who agreed to allow us to park Santa’s sleigh on a couple of parking spaces near the store entrance. That meant that we were able to c0llect on two weekends in the run up to Christmas.
We also want to thank the customers of the store, who donated generously to our Charity Fund despite torrential rain. The four days that Santa spent meeting the people of Chesterfield at Sainsbury’s raised over £1200.
Gifts Distribution in Bolsover
It has become traditional for Rotary to bring Santa to Bolsover Market Place on the last Saturday before Christmas, when he gives presents to children of all ages.
Thankfully, we were able to uphold this tradition in 2020, depite the challenges created by Covid precautions. Unfortunately, for the first time, children were not allowed to sit with Santa on his sleigh, but that did not detract from the wonder and enjoyment that the event generated.
We are pleased that Mark Fletcher MP was able to join us. He has been very helpful with advice and guidance in the run up to the event.
The picture shows him with Councillor Liz Smyth of Bolsover District Council, and her daughter Scarlet, who took the opportunity to put her requests to Santa.
The event was made possible by the generous donation of money and gifts by the following retailers in the town:
Morrison’s supermarket, Gifted with Love, Riley’s Electricals, Bolsover Fisheries, Perfect Pets, Right Price, Saigon Nails, Ultima Beauty Salon, The Vapourist, Coffee Cup, Bargain Box
Rotary is also grateful to all the people who donated gifts and money when we asked for help to fill Santa’s sack on 3rd October 2020. (Generous Bolsover does it again).
Once again Bolsover was generous in its support of Rotary with donations from the morning totalling over £450.
Santa at Inkersall
…and finally
Santa made a cameo appearance at the Club’s regular Zoom meeting to wish members a happy and safe Christmas.
We wish you all a very Happy Christmas and we hope that 2021 will be a better year for all. Thank you for your support.
