Rotary President Graham Weighill has successfully completed a firewalk challenge and powered through his fundraising target, as well as the hot coals. Read his story here…
I signed up for the challenge to raise funds for the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance, a very worthy cause. Believe it or not, it also crossed an item off my bucket list.
All 23 of us who took part had an approx 45 minute briefing from Cliff Mann, the founder of Time4Change, who were hosting the event for the Air Ambulance. He explained what was going to happen and the science behind it, answering questions and generally giving the support and inspiration that the group needed.
I must admit I found the briefing very enlightening and empowering. The way Cliff communicated to the whole group, using his decades of experience in innovative training and events management, was first class.
On the day I fully expected to be nervous, both before and during the challenge, but in reality I felt relaxed, focused and confident throughout.
After completion I was elated and proud. I had achieved the goal, and then I concentrated on supporting those still waiting to complete the challenge.
I would like to thank Cliff and all the staff from Time4Change for their professionalism and support in ensuring all of the participants were able to complete the challenge safely.
I would also like to thank the Air Ambulance fundraising team for giving us the opportunity to help their fundraising efforts.
I set myself a challenging target to raise £850, but through all of my sponsors generosity and adding Gift Aid the final total raised is over £1300. A big “thank you” to everyone who sponsored me for the challenge.
Finally I would like to thank the friends and family who came to support me that night.
I am blessed to have so many friends and family members who have supported me through this challenge.
