Rotarians pull their weight for charity

Bolsover Rotarians Graham and Paula Weighill will be pulling a 70-foot long, hand-built 10-ton wooden narrowboat along the Chesterfield Canal, in aid of Rotary Charities.

They were due to undertake this enormous challenge on Saturday 6 April but, because of the intervention of Storm Kathleen and the expectation of strong winds, for safety reasons, the event has been postponed to 5th May 2024.

The upside to this delay is that there is still time for you to sponsor their efforts. Your donations will be very much appreciated. Just send a payment to Bolsover Rotary (Details on the poster), or contact us.

Graham said: “We will begin pulling the Dawn Rose from just outside Shireoaks Marina at 10am on the morning of 5th May.
Our challenge will end when we reach the Lock Keeper Pub, Sandy Lane, Worksop approx 2 hours later, where we are hoping to be able to stagger, if not crawl, in and have a well deserved drink and possibly a spot of dinner.”

Graham was Rotary President last year, and Paula will be taking that position in 2025/6.
