Bolsover Rotary enjoyed the company of two Police Officers from the Derbyshire Road crime unit who gave us a very detailed overview of their roles. There are 8 officers in their Derbyshire team.

The officers described the forensic process of investigation after a road traffic collision, and the various tools they use to get to an accurate assessment of how and why the collision happened.
The Fatal Four
They talked about the Fatal Four – the four reasons why many accidents happens. In fact, statistics show that well over half of all collisions within the UK are directly linked to one or more of the ‘Fatal Four’ .

On board derived information
You may know that many cars have a plug-in diagnostic port under the dashboard to enable dealers to diagnose any faults.
But did you know this plug also holds information about the previous 5 seconds before an impact or accident. So if the driver was speeding it will detail the actions of what the speeds were, how they were steering/trying to avoid the accident and many many other issues. The information is vital if the case goes to court and is factual rather than opinion or ignorance.

A HUGE thank you to Derbyshire Police for allowing the two officers to attend our evening.
