Honey has been used for centuries not only as a natural sweetener but also for its numerous health benefits, and on Saturday 17th June we paid a visit to The Beestro Honey Cafe at Troway, Coal Aston
Owner and bee expert, Gloria Havenhand gave us an in-depth explanation of the special properties of the honey produced by her bees. At Troway Hall in Derbyshire, honey is most definitely on the menu, as well as in the medicine cabinet. For many years, she has been fighting against cheap commercially produced honey to ensure that the unadulterated, health-giving properties of the honey that comes out of her beehives is fully recognised.
There has been much research into the anti-bacterial and anti-viral characteristics of Troway Hall honey and the wide range of associated products sold in the “Honey Shop” on-site. Gloria was most enthusiastic in her explanations of the analysis and the findings that resulted.
Troway Hall also has a Christmas Tree plantation, with thousands of trees, up to 40feet tall, which as well as enhancing the honey that thee bees produce, generate a source of large municipal christmas trees which, in the past, have appeared in Leeds and Sheffeild as well as more local areas.
We enjoyed afternoon tea in the garden, overlooking the most fabulous view of North East Derbyshire countryside across the valley, towards Sheffield.
