Planting Purple Crocuses for Polio

On Saturday 1st November 2025, members of Bolsover Rotary planted 4000 crocus corms in Hollingwood to remind everyone that Rotary and its partners are eradicating polio.

In a world that often feels divided, polio eradication remains a rare example of what global collaboration can achieve.

Every year Bolsover Rotary plant purple crocuses somewhere in our area to mark the effort that has been put into vaccinating every child in the world against polio.

We hope you will enjoy the array of purple flowers in the spring.

Against a backdrop of shifting geopolitical realities and significant cuts in global health funding, the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) has launched its new Global Action Plan — a focused framework to ensure that the world’s 2022–2029 Polio Eradication Strategy can be fully implemented despite these challenges. The plan emphasises smarter, leaner, and more localised operations to protect hard-won gains and reach every last child.
