Rotarians hear about today’s modern army

On Wednesday we were treated to a super talk by Major Steve Goodwin talking about life in today’s army. He was, thankfully, not trying to recruit us to some 21st century “Dad’s Army”, but gave us a fuller overview of an employer that has over 200+ types of roles, 40+ apprenticeships as well as many other opportunities.

In his long career, starting as a young 16 year-old, still wet behind the ears, Major Steve has progressed through many roles, and deployments.
He has served with the infantry in Afghanistan, as well as most other continents, and is now part of theArmy’s 7th (Infantry) Brigade – The Desert Rats Engagement Team in Nottingham. He is also a local Bolsover lad!

Steve told us about the many opportunities open to young recruits in today’s army.
