Polio Eradication Update

The success of the programme to eradicate Polio from the world has continued in 2021 despite the pressures of Covid-19 affecting nations across the globe. Rotary is proud to update you on the latest situation with the a Wild Polio Virus summary.

  • The number of wild polio cases for 2021 (as of Dec. 8, 2021) is 5. There was 1 in Pakistan and 4 in Afghanistan.
     
  • The total number of wild polio cases in 2020 was 140. There were 84 in Pakistan and 56 in Afghanistan. 
  • The total number of wild polio cases in 2019 was 176. There were 147 in Pakistan and 29 in Afghanistan.

You can see that numbers are falling but we must not be complacent.

The money raised for Polio Plus in the last Rotary year was $993,251 slightly down on 19/20 at $1,122,661.

The target for this year is $1,235,000!!!

The Rotary Club of Bolsover will continue to contribute to this effort in 2022 so that the work can continue to defeat the scourge of Polio.
